The OMPECO Converter® is a patented waste transformation platform that uses friction-generated moist heat to sterilize, dehydrate, and reduce waste volume at the point of generation. No combustion, no chemicals, no microwaves, no pressure vessels. Designed for healthcare, municipal, industrial, and naval applications where reliable, compliant onsite waste treatment is mission-critical.
The Converter® platform transforms waste through a continuous mechanical process that generates the heat needed for sterilization and dehydration without external thermal sources.
Seven Steps. 30 Minutes Only.
Waste loaded inside chamber by hand in plastic bags, lid closed
Rotor starts, accelerates gradually, material finely ground, temperature rises to ~100°C
Friction heat causes evaporation of waste moisture, temperature constant at ~100°C
Once moisture eliminated, temperature increases to 151°C
Temperature held at 151°C for 3 minutes under moist heat with controlled water dosage
Waste sprinkled with water to ~100°C, vacuum pump lowers to ~60°C adiabatically
Treated material unloaded by centrifugal force through servo-operated valve
The H Series is designed for hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and medical waste service providers who require reliable, compliant onsite treatment of infectious and biohazardous waste streams. Process waste at the point of generation to reduce storage requirements, eliminate transport risks, and improve facility workflows.
*Based on the moisture content of the input waste. Output is odorless and can be stored up to 90 days without refrigeration.
The Converter® platform addresses a broad range of non-healthcare waste streams, from municipal solid waste and food waste to industrial by-products, sludge, and biomass. The processed output can potentially be classified as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), creating additional value from waste streams that would otherwise require costly disposal.
The NV Series is purpose-engineered for constrained operating environments where space, weight, vibration, and operational continuity are critical factors. Designed for naval vessels, cruise ships, offshore platforms, remote camps, military installations, and mobile facilities where waste cannot be stored indefinitely or transported easily.
Eight models ranging from compact 25-litre units for clinics and field operations to industrial 5,000-litre systems for large hospitals and centralized treatment facilities. All models share the same patented friction-heat sterilization process.
All H Series models feature the same patented friction-heat sterilization process. Energy consumption across the range: 0.4–0.6 kWh/kg. Up to 80% volume reduction, up to 50% weight reduction.
Find the Right Model for Your ProjectEvery installation is unique. The following factors are evaluated during the project development phase to ensure optimal system configuration and site readiness.
Floor area, ceiling height, door access, structural loading capacity, and equipment clearance zones for maintenance access.
Voltage, amperage, phase configuration, and available capacity. Transformer or panel upgrades may be required depending on the model.
Water supply requirements for cooling and process needs, plus drainage capacity for condensate and process water discharge.
Air handling requirements including exhaust ductwork, filtration systems, and ambient temperature management for the operating environment.
Local and national waste treatment regulations, permitting requirements, emissions standards, and compliance documentation needs.
Internal waste collection workflows, container handling, loading procedures, output storage, and disposal routing for processed material.
Every OMPECO installation is supported by Valtara's comprehensive service infrastructure, ensuring maximum uptime and optimal system performance throughout the equipment lifecycle.
Scheduled inspections, wear-part replacement, and condition monitoring programs.
Rapid-response technical support, diagnostics, and repair services for unplanned events.
Factory-certified components and consumables with managed inventory and rapid delivery.
Connected monitoring capabilities for proactive issue detection and performance optimization.
The Converter uses mechanical friction to generate moist heat for sterilization and dehydration. There is no combustion, no open flame, and no exhaust stack emissions associated with incineration. This means no air quality permits related to combustion, no ash residue, and significantly simplified regulatory compliance in most jurisdictions.
Depending on the model and configuration, the Converter can process infectious medical waste, biohazardous materials, sharps, laboratory waste, municipal solid waste, organic waste, food waste, industrial by-products, sludge, and biomass. The specific waste types suitable for each model depend on composition, moisture content, and local regulatory requirements.
The healthcare models achieve STAATT Level IV sterilization, which is the highest level of microbial inactivation recognized for alternative waste treatment technologies. This has been validated through independent third-party testing with biological indicators including B. stearothermophilus, B. subtilis, and mycobacterium species.
Volume reduction of up to 80% and weight reduction of up to 50% are achievable, depending on the moisture content of the input waste stream. High-moisture waste streams such as food waste and organic materials typically see greater weight reduction due to the dehydration process. The output is odorless and can be stored up to 90 days without refrigeration. Processed output may also qualify as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) with an energy potential of 3.5–4.5 MWh/t.
The Converter is designed for operation by trained facility staff. Valtara provides comprehensive operator training and certification programs as part of every deployment. Day-to-day operation involves waste loading, cycle management, and output handling, and does not require engineering-level technical skills.
The Converter requires electrical power (specifications vary by model), a water supply for cooling purposes, and drainage for condensate discharge. No gas supply, steam supply, or specialized chemical inputs are required. Specific utility requirements are determined during the project development phase based on the selected model and site conditions.
The output is a dry, sterile, unrecognizable material that is typically classified as non-hazardous solid waste. It can be disposed of through standard municipal waste channels in most jurisdictions. For certain waste streams, the output may qualify as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), creating potential value recovery opportunities. Output classification is subject to local regulations.
Suitability depends on multiple factors including the specific Converter model, waste stream composition and volume, local regulatory requirements, site conditions, and operating environment. We recommend starting with a project evaluation through our team or the Project Intelligence platform to determine whether the technology is appropriate for your application.
The suitability of any OMPECO Converter® model for a specific application depends on multiple factors including the Converter model and configuration, waste stream composition and characteristics, applicable local and national regulations, specific operating conditions and environment, and site-specific infrastructure requirements. The information provided on this page is for general informational purposes. All product specifications, performance claims, and application suitability must be confirmed through a formal project evaluation with qualified Valtara and OMPECO representatives. Performance data may vary based on actual operating conditions.
